CATALOG of MOTION PICTURES of GERMAN ORIGINOffice of Alien Property, U.S. Department of Justice
Oscar E. Mollari, ed., Washington: Dept. of Justice, 01 Dec., 1952, wraps, 8 x 10 inches, 96 pp., introduction, explanatory notes.
This is an authentic (not reproduction) catalog of 4000+ German motion pictures for which the United States Attorney General held the rights following WWII. The legal jurisdiction was the 1917
Trading with the Enemy Act
, which also established the
Office of Alien Property Custodian
; legalese for “to the victors go the spoils”.
The catalog was made available to U.S. film producers wishing to “exploit” German intellectual property, for which the U.S. government would receive a royalty payment. The films are listed alphabetically, from
Aachen and the Lower Rhine Valley
to
12 Minuten nach 12
. The document shows the type of film (feature, short, documentary, newsreel, military, NSDAP, etc.), also the producing entity and U.S Vesting Order number. An asterisk indicates a copy of the film available within the United States.
The catalog is in VG Condition, apart from being hole-punched and the covers being separated. I applied self-adhesive reinforcements to the inside covers and used brass fasteners. The covers and interior pages are otherwise unstained and unmarked.
Physical copies of the catalog are long out of print and only viewable at the Library of Congress, the National Archives and large institutional libraries.
Domestic Media Mail with Delivery Confirmation, International Priority Mail with tracking. My books are always plastic-sealed against moisture and well protected.
Payment accepted within twenty-four (24) hours of auction close. No returns unless manifestly not as described.
Thanks for looking!
