    Description

Myott Staffordshire Chelsea Bird Red 9 3/4” Plate England.
    'Chelsea Bird’ design, china.
Excellent vintage condition with no chips, scratches or wear, just some crazing. Do not appear used on regular basis as there are no utensil marks. Probably only used for display as this pattern is so very beautiful.
    From a lovely estate.
If you are interested in more than one piece I will happily combine shipping.
    About this object
Dinner plate, cream china, with 'Chelsea Bird' design in centre and around rim, with gold border and three burgundy panels between bird designs around rim.
Myott, Son and Co Ltd operated originally from the Alexander Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England, producing earthenware from 1898. Run by brothers, Ashley and Sydney Myott, the company soon had to expand, moving to the Brownfields Works in Cobridge and extending to Upper Hanley Pottery in 1925. The company began to produce hand painted Art Deco wares, popularised by their varied ranges of vases and jugs. White ware was produced for the Cunard shipping company with the provision of cubist style tea sets. There was a fire at the factory in 1949 in which many files were destroyed including vital pattern information. The company relocated again after 1949 to the larger Crane Street Pottery in Hanley and in 1969 was taken over by an American corporation, Interpace. 1976 saw the company merge with Alfred Meakin Limited. The name was then lost after the company was taken over by the Churchill Group. [Source: www.myottmart.co.uk/myotthistory.html]
